CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) – R. Kelly was arrested for federal sex trafficking charges Thursday night.
The 52-year-old was reportedly walking his dog in Chicago when he was arrested by Homeland Security Investigations agents and the NYPD’s Public Safety Task Force.
A 13-count indictment was handed down earlier Thursday (July 10) in federal court for the Northern District of Illinois and includes charges of child pornography, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice.
Federal prosecutors for the Eastern District of New York are expected to unveil Friday additional charges in the case.
Kelly has been at the center of a number of sexual abuse allegations for nearly two decades, with some accusations dating back to the late 90s. In February the singer was charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse, followed by 11 more counts of sexual assault and sexual abuse in May.
Four of the counts charged Kelly with aggravated criminal sexual assault — a Class X felony, which carries six to 30 years in prison if the accused is convicted. Three of the new counts also accused the singer of sexually abusing a victim between the ages of 13 and 16 in 2010.
Kelly continues to maintain his innocence and has pleaded not guilty on all accounts.
