NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) – 13-time Grammy award winning rapper, songwriter and producer Pharrell Williams recently announced guaranteed internships to 114 Harlem high school students after their first year of college.
He made the announcement during his commencement speech at Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy’s graduation ceremony last week.
The Academy in Harlem, New York, is a charter school that offers free high-quality education to students in kindergarten through grade 12. Admission to the K-12 school is determined by a lottery. According to the school’s website, its goal is “doing whatever it takes to help our 13,500 kids get to and through college and end the cycle of generational poverty in Central Harlem.”
Williams has been working with the school to create an internship program to give students access to connections in fields they would not get otherwise. Earlier this year, he also partnered with Verizon to launch a technology-focused curriculum in under-resourced middle schools across the country.
