NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — The New York Police Department on Tuesday announced that they have discovered the body of the popular YouTuber and Live Streamer Etika.
The 29-year-old content creator, whose real name is Desmond Amofah, was reported missing last week after posting an eight-minute YouTube video in which he appeared to be discussing suicide.
Etika was a popular figure on YouTube, Twitch and social media, known for video game related content focused on Nintendo gaming systems, and for “reaction videos” that featured him reacting to product releases from companies.
Late last year, he demonstrated some indications that he was grappling with mental illness, including sabotaging his own YouTube channel several times by intentionally violating the terms of service.
In April, he lived streamed a brief standoff with police, after making several concerning social media posts, including a photo of him holding a gun, and in May, he was hospitalized after assaulting a police officer.
He later discussed his mental illness and suggested to his social media followers that the platforms should be used with “caution.”
“It can give you an image of what you want your life to be and get blown completely out of proportion,” he said.
“It consumed me.”
