LONDON (CelebrityAccess) Castro Brown, 68, a respected figure in British reggae, died in London from complications of a heart attack May 11.
Brown suffered a heart attack four days earlier at home and was admitted to Croydon University Hospital in south London, his daughter Theresa Brown told the Jamaica Observer.
Brown, who migrated to England in 1961 and worked with the influential Coxsone sound system, founded Morpheus Records which produced artists like his brother Jackie Brown, Dennis Brown and Gregory Isaacs. He and Dennis Brown, a close friend, later operated the DEB Music label, which had a roster that included Alton Ellis, Junior Delgado and The Tamlins.
Brown returned to Jamaica in the ’80s and launched the New Name record label and recording studio in Kingston. He was also known as a mentor, manager and trainer in boxing circles, according to the Observer.
Brown is survived by 17 children, more than 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
