UKRAINE (CelebrityAccess) Ukranian comedian Volodymyr Zelensky has won in a landslide in the country’s presidential election.
The polls give political newcomer Zelensky more than 70 percent support in his challenge to incumbent president Petro Poroshenko, who has admitted defeat. It is considered a rejection of Ukraine’s establishment.
“I will never let you down,” Zelensky told supporters today. “I’m not yet officially the president, but as a citizen of Ukraine, I can say to all countries in the post-Soviet Union: Look at us. Anything is possible.”
Zelensky’s biggest role came in a satirical TV series called “Servant of the People” where his character accidentally becomes the president of Ukraine. Zelensky ran under a political party with the same name as the show.
His platform is reportedly thin and he focused much of his campaign on the failings of the other candidates rather than what he plans to do once in office.
