CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) – Phone texts suggest chief Chicago prosecutor Kim Foxx worked closely with attorney Michael Avenatti before bringing sexual abuse charges against R&B singer and rapper R. Kelly, including by meeting Avenatti during a layover at O’Hare International Airport, according to a new report released by the Chicago Tribune Thursday (April 18).
The Tribune says that the February 9 meeting, which is based on text messages obtained through an open records request, shows Foxx even arranged an office at O’Hare where the two could talk privately.
Avenatti represents two Kelly accusers and gave prosecutors video purporting to show Kelly having sex with a minor.
Kelly’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, is now arguing that the case against the singer is tainted by the involvement of Avenatti, who has since been charged with embezzlement and extortion. Avenatti denies the charges while Kelly prosecutors have said Greenberg’s claims are baseless.
Kelly was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse back in February. He continues to maintain that he is not guilty.
