CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) — Controversial R&B artist R. Kelly has been arrested again, this time over unpaid child support payments.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the 52-year-old Kelly was taken into custody after a hearing on Wednesday for failing to pay more than $161,000 in back child support to his ex-wife Andrea Kelly by a court-mandated deadline.
The Kellys, who were married for 13 years, finalized their divorce in 2009. They have three children together – 20-year-old Joann, otherwise known as Buku Abi; Jay, 18; and Robert Jr., who is 16.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Kelly must pay $161,663 to be released from jail. Kelly was reportedly prepared to pay as much as $60k of his debt and to set up a payment plan.
Kelly’s arrest comes just two weeks after he was arrested on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault against four alleged victims, including three who were underage at the time the alleged abuse occurred.
ted, Kelly faces a maximum of three to seven years in prison on each charge. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
