Winston-Salem NC (CelebrityAccess) — Sara Romweber, a rock drummer best known for her work with the ’80s college rock band Let’s Active and the Flat Duo Jets, has died after a battle with cancer. She was 55.

News of her passing was reported by music journalist David Menconi via social media and her manager confirmed her passing to Pitchfork, stating that she suffered from a brain tumor.

Romweber joined the North Carolina-based Let’s Active at the age of 17 and helped to define the band’s distinctive sound.

She performed on the band’s demo which became the EP Afoot after they signed with I.R.S. She also performed on Let’s Active’s 1984 debut LP “Cypress.”

Romweber later quit the band in the midst of a UK tour, and later co-founded the band Snatches of Pink but failed to recreate the early success she found with Let’s Active.

As well, she performed with her brother Dexter in several projects, including Flat Duo Jets as well as The Dex Romweber Duo.

In 2014, she joined her former Let’s Active bandmate Mitch Easter for a reunion that served as a benefit a cancer charity, the Be Loud! Sophie Foundation.

In a statement released after news of her death broke, Superchunk’s Mac McCaughan wrote, “Sara Romweber was one of the kindest, most unique & inspiring people I’ve known…. A fantastically powerful and creative drummer.”
