LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — While it was a close run, Universal and DreamWorks animated’ How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World topped the weekend box office, both in North America and worldwide.
The third and maybe final installment in the Dragon trilogy added $30m from domestic theaters and $82m worldwide over the course of the weekend. The weekend’s take helped Dragon to close in on the $400m mark.
In North America, Dragon fended off a challenge from the Lionsgate distributed newcomer Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral, which debuted to a $27m opening weekend.
Worldwide, the sci-fi comic book adaption Alita: Battle Angel crossed the $350 million global box office threshold, generating $7m in North America, and $47m worldwide.
