(CelebrityAccess) As John Mellencamp’s tour continues across the country, the musician has continued to “take a knee” at the end of his concerts.
At the first of three shows at the Beacon Theater in New York City, Mellencamp knelt on stage at the end of the song “Easy Target,” which focuses on society’s treatment of minorities and the poor and includes the lyrics “Well, let the poor be damned, and the easy targets too / All are created equal, equally beneath me and you.”, according to Fox News.
Mellencamp took a knee last year during a performance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and suggested to Billboard magazine it was spontaneous.
“I’ve never planned anything in my life,” he said. “Taking a knee felt like nothing. At the time, it felt like part of the performance. After the fact, I hope it made some kind of difference.”
As for the show itself, it was dubbed “spectacular” with a stripped-down version of “Jack and Diane” getting one of several standing ovations.
