SIOUX CITY, Iowa (CelebrityAccess) Bobby Jensen, guitarist for KISS cover band Hairball, continued to rock out at a recent show even though his hair caught on fire, and not by just a little.

Jensen, glammed out as Paul Stanley, was kicking off “Detroit Rock City” when a spark caught his hair on fire while performing in Sioux City, Iowa. It was not a short incident: it took a bandmate and two stage crew members to douse the flame as Jensen continued to play guitar and sing.

“I live an Evil Knievel kind of life, so if I’m on fire a little bit, I don’t care, that’s just part of the fun,” Jensen told Ultimate Classic Rock. “I knew I was on fire right away, and that wasn’t a wig, that’s my hair. It was really nice and foofy before the show, now I have a much better Alice Cooper cut.”

Jensen, who played in the KISS tribute band Strutter before his 15-year stint in Hairball, said that bandmembers of the actual KISS reached out to him to see if he was OK.

“My friends in Kiss got a hold of me already, and asked me if I was alright,” he told Ultimate Classic Rock. “They saw the video, they said ‘hey are you OK? F— man, you just stood there and kept on singing.’ Like I said, our guys are pros, we’re around the pyro all the time. It’s not anything that I’m really fazed by. It got a little warm on my head, and some of it’s burned off, but it still doesn’t look bad. We’re OK and the fire marshall was cool, and we’re all licensed and insured and everything’s done properly.”

UCR noted that Gene Simmons has said his hair has caught on fire “six or seven times,” with one famous incident on New Year’s Eve in 1973, since the bassist introduced his fire-eating routine.

Hairball also pays tribute to Van Halen, Motley Crue, Queen, JOurney and Aerosmith during its performance.
