LAS VEGAS (CelebrityAccess) — More than a year deadly mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival, the FBI on Tuesday announced that it had concluded its case without finding a motive in the attack.
The shooting, which took place during the Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas, was the deadliest such incident in U.S. history, leaving 58 people dead and almost 900 injured.
The FBI said they found no “single or clear motivating factor” to explain why the Stephen Paddock opened fire from a suite in Mandalay Bay, a high rise casino-hotel that overlooks the festival grounds.
Paddock, 64, was a former postal worker who made a comfortable living in retirement with real estate investments. He was described by the FBI as a loner, with no political or religious affiliations, but who enjoyed high stakes gambling.
“It wasn’t about MGM, Mandalay Bay or a specific casino or venue,” Aaron Rouse, the agent in charge of the FBI’s Las Vegas office, told The Associated Press. “It was all about doing the maximum amount of damage and him obtaining some form of infamy.”
“This report comes as close to understanding the why as we’re ever going to get,” Rouse added.
Police in Las Vegas concluded a separate investigation in August, and similarly, failed to identify a single motivation for Paddock’s attack.
