LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Video game sales climbed to $43.4 billion in 2018, according to the Entertainment Software Association and the NPD Group, marking an 18 percent climb from 2017.

Sales were fueled but Rockstar’s “Red Dead Redemption 2” plus “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4,” “Marvel’s Spider-Man,” “God of War” and “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.” Hardware sales were up 15 percent, including VR headsets and plug-and-play consoles, grossing $7.5 billion for the big three platforms, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The latter actually surpassed PlayStation 4 in sales.

“We’re only in our second holiday and the consumer is indicating that, for them, this product, with this great alignment of software, really is a must-have product and something that they need to have now,” Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime told The Hollywood Reporter in December.

The latest figures confirm that gaming is the top entertainment industry in North America and the world.
