LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — M. Night Shyamalan’s superhero film Glass opened at the top of both the North American and international box office over the weekend, taking in an estimated $89.1M worldwide, according to estimates compiled by comScore.

The film, which is a followup to Shyamalan’s previous entries Unbreakable (2000) and Split (2015) fields Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Spencer Treat Clark, and Charlayne Woodard reprising their roles from Unbreakable, and James McAvoy and Anya Taylor-Joy returning from Split.

When Unbreakable was released in 2000, it was widely talked about as a sequel, but the followup films failed to materialize in the wake of disappointing box office results. 2015’s Split included a final scene that was essentially unrelated to the movie, but which tied it to characters from Unbreakable, renewing speculation about the long-awaited trilogy.

Notably, Paramount’s Bumblebee crossed the $400 million mark worldwide this weekend, while Warner Bros. Aquaman added another $24.6M to its cumulative total with the film still in theaters in 80 markets around the world.
