WASHINGTON, D.C. (CelebrityAccess) Seth Hurwitz, the indie concert promotion phenomenon of the Washington D.C. area, played a small role in the film “Green Book,” which had a short theatre release but won a Golden Globe Award for best musical/comedy.
Hurwitz played Johnny Randazzo, according to IMDB, who in real life was an associate of the Tattaglia mob family in Hell’s Kitchen, N.Y. A crewmember under Squeegie McNeese, Randazzo used to run a conterfeiting operation in the backroom of the Arezzo Seafood shop in the New York precinct, according to GodfatherWikia.com.
The film is about African-American classical and jazz pianist Dr. Don Shirley being driven around the Deep South in the 1960s by Italian-American bouncer Tony Vallelonga. Shirley is played by Mahershala Ali and Vallelonga by Viggo Mortensen.
The film has received recent criticism from Dr. Shirley’s nephew, Edwin Shirley III, who called the film’s potrayal of his uncle a “symphony of lies.”
Hurwitz. longtime owner of D.C.’s 9:30 Club and promotion company I.M.P., is also the proud new owner of the Anthem music venue and the longtime operator of Merriweather Post-Pavilion amphitheatre in Baltimore. He had a brief appearance in HBO’s “Treme” in 2010.
