LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — Live Nation’s Festival Republic is potentially facing a raft of new restrictions at the Wireless Festival following a series of complaints by local residents.
According to the BBC, the Haringey Council reviewed Live Nation’s license to hold the festival at London’s Finsbury Park after a group of local residents, represented by the Friends of Finsbury, expressed concerns over the festival. Residents cited noise, crowds, safety and anti-social behavior, litter, sanitation, and drugs as potential issues for the fest.
Following the review, the Haringey Council recommended several new restrictions for the festival, including a tighter curfew to make sure the festival ends on time.
The new rules also attempt to tackle public decency issues by barring performers from swearing on stage. The council’s report noted that in 2018, some of the language used on stage was “clearly audible and not appropriate” for children in the vicinity to hear.
However, other objects raised by local residents, including a bid to have the festival’s capacity lowered, were not addressed by the council. Wireless is currently licensed for 49,999, with 37,000 turning out for the most recent event.
Both Festival Republic and the Friends of Finsbury Park have 21 days to appeal the council’s rulings.
According to the BBC, The Friends of Finsbury Park group said it was happy the council was addressing the “excessive and invasive noise” and pleased with the new curfew.
Festival Republic told Newsbeat that it had no comment on the ruling.
