LONDON (CelebrityAccess) – Universal Music Group has announced that it has named Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer and arranger Giles Martin to the newly created role of Head of Audio & Sound.
In this new global position, Martin (who is the son of renowned Beatles producer, the late George Martin) will be responsible for leading UMG’s exploration of new audio technologies, spearheading potential partnerships with innovators in the field and encouraging artists signed to UMG’s labels to record at both Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, and at Abbey Road Studios in London where he will be based.
Commenting on the appointment, Martin said in a statement: “The landscape of the way people listen to music has changed dramatically. This is an exciting time. New technology should ensure the artist can now connect directly with the listener and it’s our job as the music industry to make sure that connection is as clear and direct as possible…It’s inspiring to be given the opportunity to work with an amazing team at UMG to push the boundaries of audio and sound for both the artist and the music lover.”

Martin’s recent credits include: Ron Howard’s documentary, The Beatles: Eight Days A Week — The Touring Years; Martin Scorsese’s George Harrison: Living in the Material World and the British action franchise Kingsman; and the Elton John biopic Rocketman.
