EDINBURGH, Scotland (CelebrityAccess) Tens of thousands of credit card holders with Lloyds Banking Group have expected to have their credit cards stopped because of the Ticketmaster data breach earlier this year.
The banking group,m based in Edinburgh and which owns the Bank of Scotland, stopped around 1 percent of the cards issued to customers, which still adds up to five figures, according to The Scotsman.
Ticketmaster found malicious software was exporting customer data to an unknown third party. Customers of the Bank of Scotland claim they had their credit cards canceled without notification and could not make payment at shops or online.
The Bank of Scotland, however, claims it informs customers that it recommends reissuing their cards and gives them five days to decide. The bank said it will look into cases of those who claim they did not receive consultation, according to the newspaper.
One customer in Fife told the Scotsman she found her card was rejected yesterday when trying to pay for a hotel room.
“It has been very frustrating that I have tried to use my credit card recently for online sales and a hotel reservation only to have the transactions declined through no fault of my own,” she said. “I would have expected the bank to be pro-active and for them to have got in touch with me directly about any cancellation rather than me having to contact them. It is extremely concerning and frankly unacceptable.”
A Lloyds Banking Group spokeswoman told the paper, “We use a range of approaches to protect customers from the risk of fraud, including reissuing cards on occasion. In all cases, we take all possible steps to minimize time without a card.”
