SAN FRANCISCO (CelebrityAccess) – Apple has acquired A&R-boosting music analytics startup Asaii for less than a reported $100m.
The news of the acquisition comes just three weeks after Apple completed the buyout of audio recognition platform Shazam for $400m, and as its main competitor, Spotify continues to increase its support for unsigned artists, who can now upload their music directly to its service.
Asaii’s main product is a dashboard that processes data from both music services and social media in order to assist record labels in planning things like marketing campaigns and live tours, but most importantly enables them to identify artists that have the potential to be the “next big thing.” The platform also produces a recommendation algorithm that streaming services can use to suggest relevant music to their listeners based on their existing preferences.
Asaii is currently based in San Francisco.
