LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — The iconic London concert hall Koko announced that it has temporarily shuttered due to “structural issues” discovered during construction work at the venue.

In a statement, the theater’s operators said the shutdown was effective immediately and was expected to extend through Mid-October.

“Our consultant surveyors recently made us aware of a structural issue with this 117-year-old building. The protection and well-being of our customers and staff is of paramount importance and we have therefore decided to
close the venue while work is carried out,” KOKO spokesman Larry Seymour said.

According to the venue team, all All promoters and managers who had artists or events booked into the venue during the closure period have been notified.

“We place the utmost value on our relationships with our clients, but we were unable to work around the diary. The nature of the work means that there is no alternative to a full closure,” Seymour added. “We offer sincere and heartfelt apologies to all our clients and customers who have been affected by the closure. Our contractors are working diligently and at all speed to ensure that we are able to welcome back a full programme of events as soon as possible.”

Located in London’s Camden neighborhood, the 2,400-capacity Koko was previously known as the Camden Palace and Music Machine until its 2004 purchase by Oliver Bengough and Mint Entertainment. The theater first opened in 1900 and has previously served as a variety theater, a cinema and a radio theater for the BBC.
