MOSCOW (CelebrityAccess) – Maria Alekhina, a member of Pussy Riot, told The Associated Press that a severely ill fellow activist, Pyotr Verzilov, was flown to Berlin over the weekend to receive treatment following a suspected poisoning.
Verzilov was hospitalized in Moscow on Tuesday and was in intensive care. According to Alekhina, he regained consciousness on Friday. She believes he was poisoned for political reasons.
Verzilov, Nikulshina and two other Pussy Riot members served 15-day jail sentences for running onto a Moscow field during the World Cup final game back in July. They staged the protest as a rejection of the excessive powers of the Russian police force. The brief disruption was broadcast to a very large global audience.
