LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – 20th Century Fox’s “The Predator”, a long-in the tooth sequel to schlocky ’80’s  sci-fi action classic topped the weekend box office take, earning a mediocre $24.0M in North American theaters and $54.7M worldwide, according to estimates compiled by comScore.

The 4th installment in the venerable “Predator” series featured an ensemble cast that included Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Thomas Jane, Alfie Allen, and Sterling K. Brown.

Veteran action director Shane Black, whose credits include “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” (2005), and Iron Man 3 (2013), served as a co-writer for the film along with Fred Dekker.

While “Predator” was the best-selling movie this weekend with a wide debut in more than 70 territories worldwide, its performance was surely a disappointment considering the movie’s estimated $88m production budget.

Last week’s champion “The Nun” continued its strong box office run, adding an additional $18.2M in North American theaters and $51.3M internationally.

Also debuting this week was the Hong Kong action-crime thriller “L-Storm”. A sequel to 2016’s “S Storm” the movie earned $32.2M in just three territories for its debut weekend.
