(CelebrityAccess) – Dave Grohl released his much anticipated two-part mini docu-series “PLAY” this week.

Directed and narrated by Grohl himself, the series is told through the lens of his own experience as a musician and highlights both the joy of making music and the importance of overcoming challenges that musicians tend to face.

“To any musician, young or old, a beautiful studio full of instruments is like a playground,” he says. “To me, I’m like a kid in a candy store. Most musicians are always chasing the next challenge; you never feel satisfied, and you never feel like you’ve completely mastered the instrument you’re playing. It’s always going to be a puzzle; it’s always going to be a challenge. It’s a beautiful mystery. But once it gets its hooks in you, that’s when the obsession and the drive really kick in.”

“PLAY” also features footage of “Join the Band” music lessons school in the San Fernando Valley, where instructors teach kids how to play in rock ensembles. The expertly-edited interactive video then concludes with a 23-minute long live instrumental track (also called “Play”) in which Grohl performs various instruments (electric and acoustic guitars, bass guitar, drums, Fender Rhodes piano, synthesizers, vibraphone, tambourine, and tympani) as an epic one-man band.

Oh, and the guy has also provided downloadable sheet music because, well, it’s Dave Grohl.

A limited-edition vinyl version of “Play” will be released on September 28th, however, the LP is available to pre-order and the digital version is available to stream and download now.

Watch the video below, or head over to the official “PLAY” website for the full interactive experience.
