RIVERSIDE, CA (CelebrityAccess) — Police in Riverside California are investigating the reported disappearance of former MTV personality Josiah “Jesse” Camp.
According to Variety, Riverside Police said that Camp was reported missing by his sister Mariah on July 19th after he stopped communicating with his family.
“Family members who he routinely keeps in contact with had not heard from him for about a week. During their inquiries into his possible whereabouts, they learned Jesse was recently in the city of Riverside but is also known to frequent the Inland Empire region,” the Riverside Police Department said in a statement.
“There does not appear to be anything suspicious at this time regarding Jesse being missing other than his ceased contact with family and friends,” the statement added.
The 38-year-old Camp, whose birth name is Josiah, is “possibly transient” and was staying in local motels in the area, police stated.
Camp became an MTV Video Jockey after he won MTV’s first “Wanna Be a VJ” contest in 1998. The contest challenged the contender’s knowledge of music and the music channel’s on-air personalities. For winning the contest, Camp received a $25,000 cash prize and a one-year contract as an on-air personality with MTV’s Total Request Live.
After his exit from TRL in 199, he ventured into live music, forming the glam rock band Jesse & the 8th Street Kidz and landing a recording contract with Hollywood Records.
The band’s debut album was produced by Rob Cavallo and Julian Raymond and included a duet with Stevie Nicks. However, the album received mixed reviews and failed to generate any traction with fans. Camp faded from the public eye shortly after that.
In 2016, Camp was video interviewed by the New York Post and offered several gossipy bits of information about morning television personalities. He then told the interviewer “I’m zipping it ’cause I am on a very bad acid trip at the moment and I think I’m being interviewed for the New York Post — so clearly I’m not in my right head.”
