STUTTGART, Germany (CelebrityAccess) Kraftwerk had a special guest at its Stuttgart, Germany, concert last night: astronaut Alexander Gerst, who joined in with the German electronic pioneers for a song while in the International Space Station.
For his part, Gerst used a tablet with a virtual synthesizer app, joining in on Kraftwerk’s 1978 song “Spacelab” while fans cheered.
The collaboration hearkens back to a similar duet between astronaut Chris Hadfield and the Barenaked ladies in 2013, with Hadfield joining in on a song while being 350 miles above the earth. It was the first earth / space musical collaboration.
