LOS ANGELES, (CelebrityAccess) — Soon fans of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewitt’s virtual group Gorillaz will be able to chat with one Murdoc, one of the group’s members with the help of a chatbot.
Chatbot company imperson is partnering with Gorillaz and their label Parlophone Records to launch the “Free Murdoc” AI chatbot on Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Facebook Messenger, Kik and Skype.
In the Gorillaz storyline, the fictional Murdoch is currently incarcerated on trumped-up smuggling charges at HM Prison Wormwood Scrubs, London. Fans of the group can converse with Murdoc – via voice or text – to find clues on how to help him escape from prison.
The bot will be available over multiple months with new episodes and content to promote the release of Gorillaz’s latest studio album “The Now Now.”
Users who help successfully find a way to ‘help’ Murdoc receive an exclusive, customized video which they can share across social media platforms.
The chatbot launched June 4 and immediately went viral with high performance and fan engagement rates. The total number of messages exchanged between fans and Murdoc at the time of publication is more than 10 million. On average, fans are spending more than seven minutes chatting on text and more than four minutes chatting on voice platforms.
Ninety-eight percent of users are fully engaged in the immersive storyline and expressed positive sentiment, imperson reported.
