NASHVILLE, TN (CelebrityAccess) — Country music legend Garth Brooks announced that he’d be the first musical artist to perform at the historic Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend.
According to the Tennessean, Brooks made the announcement during a press conference at WME’s offices in Nashville on Monday (July 9th).
“The two top recording artists, the two top people, for selling albums as well as records are Elvis Presley and Garth Brooks,” Lou Holtz, Notre Dame’s former head football coach was quoted by the newspaper.
“Elvis wasn’t available. It’s going to be exciting. Notre Dame is such a special place. Never before is about to happen,” Holtz added.
The date for the show was not announced, and Brooks said he would coordinate with the school’s football schedule to find the appropriate time for the event.
The 80,000-capacity stadium, which first opened in 1930, serves as a home for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish but the facilit has never hosted a concert before.
“You do things in your life that you are proud of, if you’re lucky. This, just by association, brings a ton of pride to myself and my family. It’s pretty cool. These guys walk the walk and they talk the talk. I can’t tell you how excited we are to get to bring a different kind of crazy to that stadium. This is going to be a lot of fun for us, and it opens the doors for our next chapter,” Brooks reportedly said during the press conference.
