(CelebrityAccess) — Maynard James Keenan, frontman of the bands Tool and the rock supergroup A Perfect Circle, responded to anonymous allegations of sexual abuse leveled against him by an anonymous user on social media.
Last week, a Twitter user posting under the name IWas17HeWas36, alleged in a series of posts that when she was 17, Keenan invited her to come backstage during A Perfect Circle show in 2000. The user claims that Keenan took her to his tour bus, where she alleges that he drugged and sexually assaulted her, leaving her with an STD.
She goes on to claim that she had heard allegations of similar behavior by Keenan in other cities.
On Thursday, Keenan responded to the anonymous user, categorically denying the allegations.
Many thanks to those of you who saw right through this despicable false claim that only does damage to the #metoo movement. And shame on those of you who perpetuate this destructive clickbait. As for my delayed but un-required response, I had my phone off. You should try it.

The anonymous author stated did not respond to Keenan’s response, and said she would no longer be checking direct messages on her account but urged people who have been assaulted by Keenan to contact her.
Keenan has not been criminally charged and the anonymous user has offered no corroborating evidence for her claim.
