OTTAWA, ONT. (CelebrityAccess) – Production of Canada’s RBC Bluesfest, which takes place in the nation’s capital each July, is currently being held up by a mama bird who is busy waiting for her four nest eggs to hatch.
Workers came across the killdeer and her nest — which enjoy protected status in Canada — as they were preparing to set up one of the festival’s main stages.
“I have to say this is one of the most challenging problems that we’ve been presented with recently,” said, Bluesfest Executive Director Mark Monahan. “Anything that disrupts the schedule has a major effect, so we’re taking it very seriously, we are working with our partners to try and resolve it and we hope to get a resolution within the next 24 hours.”
Monahan also noted that festival organizers were waiting on word from federal officials about whether or not they could move the bird and her nest in the event that the eggs did not hatch by end of day yesterday.
Killdeer eggs take between 24 and 28 days to hatch, however, there is a chance that if moved, the mother may abandon her young.
While there’s not a whole hell of a lot festival organizers can do given the circumstances, time is certainly ticking. Bluesfest draws upwards of 300,000 music fans to the city of Ottawa annually, and is scheduled to kick off on July 5th.
