LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Former Bill Cosby attorney called his client’s recent conviction a “travesty of justice” in an interview aired Friday on “Inside Edition.”
Tom Mesereau said the jury decision that found Cosby guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault was biased. Cosby could be sent to jail for up to 10 years on each count.
“It was a travesty of justice, the likes of which I have never seen in my whole career,” he said, blaming the #MeToo movement. “The #MeToo movement is founded in something very, very desirable – stop sexual harassment against women, stop discrimination against women, stop abuse against women. I commend those principles, but the movement has gotten so powerful that judges are running scared, in my opinion.”
Mesereau was dismissed from the case but said “People go through different lawyers” and wished the Cosby family the best.
Cosby is scheduled to be sentenced in September.
“I think an appeal of this case has to succeed,” he said. “I hope he doesn’t spend one minute in jail because he doesn’t deserve to.”
Meanwhile, three Maryland schools have said they will rescind honorary degrees bestowed upon Cosby.
