LOS ANGELES, CA (CelebrityAccess) – Dr. Dre is working on a brand new film about Motown legend Marvin Gaye, and it looks like he’s secured the rights to Gaye’s musical catalog, which includes hits such as “What’s Going On” and “Sexual Healing.”
Though the Dre-produced biopic will not mark the first time Hollywood has attempted to dramatize Gaye’s life on-screen (previous attempts involving Jamie Foxx, Cameron Crowe, James Gandolfini and Scott Rudin have been made), according to Variety, the legendary rapper and producer turned business mogul, has the approval of the Gaye family estate to move forward with the project.
While details of the biopic have not yet been confirmed publicly, Dre’s previous film, 2016’s NWA origin story, Straight Outta Compton, was not only nominated for best original screenplay at the 2016 Academy Awards, but grossed more than $200M worldwide.
In the meantime, let’s all enjoy a little of what Marvin left behind.
