BELFAST, Ireland (CelebrityAccess) Ed Sheeran dropped by a Belfast pub after playing in the Irish city May 9, playing a few tunes for the 40-or-so patrons and giving advice on how to get a driver’s licence.
Sheeran had just played to about 40,000 at a sold-out Boucher Road concert when he dropped by unannounced at Maddens Bar, home of traditional folk music in the city, bringing some of his backing musicians with him, along with opening act Anne-Marie, according to Ireland’s Independent newspaper.
Anne-Marie sang a few of the songs on Sheeran’s short set at the pub “in Madens Bar, which is in Berry Street at the back of the CastleCourt shopping complex,” according to the paper.
“Maddens is famous in Belfast for traditional music and someone in Ed’s team heard about this and told him it would be a good place to relax after the gig,” one of the attendees told the Independent. “Everyone had a great time and were singing along while he played the guitar.”
Probably one of the best memories will be for teenage barmaid Rhiannon McLaughlin, who passed her driving test the next day after getting advice from Sheeran (who spent much of the time signing autographs for the attendees).
“He was so friendly, and so too were the other members of his band,” McLaughlin told the paper. “It was like having your own personal concert.”
Sheeran plays tonight at Pearse Stadium in Galway, Ireland, and Phoenix Park in Dublin on Wednesday.
