LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Childish Gambino, he of the many hyphens, did his share of work this weekend, hosting “Saturday Night Live” and then putting out a music video on Sunday morning that had everybody from Forbes to Billboard scrambling to their computers.
The video is for the new song “This Is America,” and it starts off nicely enough, with Donald Glover hanging out in a parking garage. But then it turns into an absolute surreal video that mixes dancing with terrorism. Some of the images are downright disturbing including, at one point, massacring a church chorie. It also happens to be his first music video since the Grammy-nominated Awaken, My Love in 2016 as noted by Variety.
Adirenne Gibbs, contributing writer for Forbes, broke it all down, noting that the video honors at least 10 “ultra-popular” dance moves including the Gwara Gwara, which originated in South Africa. Also that Sza makes a cameo and that it references just about every variety of gun death possible in America.
