NEW YORK, NY (CelebrityAccess) – A federal judge has ordered Jay-Z to appear in court next Tuesday to explain why he’s been dodging a subpoena related to an investigation of the company that purchased his Rocawear clothing line more than a decade ago.
Failing to provide a sufficient excuse, Jay-Z will be further ordered to appear for questioning before the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington on May 11.
A statement issued on behalf of the performer and entrepreneur read: “[Jay-Z] had no role in Iconix Brand Group’s financial reporting or its other actions as a public company. Jay-Z sold his Rocawear apparel brand and other assets to Iconix for $204 million more than a decade ago. The statement also said the singer is a private citizen “who should not be involved in this matter.”
SEC is currently investigating Iconix to determine whether or not federal securities laws were violated when the company reported financial results, including about its Rocawear-related assets.
