NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — MMA star Conor McGregor is facing a list of criminal charges after an attack on an MMA rival’s tour bus at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Thursday.
McGregor, who turned himself in late Thursday, was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court for his alleged role in the melee, which left one man injured when McGregor appeared to throw a steel hand truck at a tour bus, shattering a window.
McGregor was charged with felony criminal mischief and misdemeanor counts of assault, attempted assault, menacing and reckless endangerment.
McGregor was also accused of punching another man, Jason Ledbetter, several times in the head with a closed fist.
Also charged with criminal mischief in the attack was Cian Cowley, who was alleged to have thrown a metal chair at one of the buses’ windows.
Bail for McGregor was set at $50,000 and $25,000 for Cowley, with both men were bailed out by celebrity bondsman Ira Judelson, the New York Post reported.
McGregor’s alleged attack occurred during a press event at Barclays Center ahead of the UFC 223 event, which is scheduled for Saturday.
McGregor’s alleged attack on the press event only added to the list of woes for what is widely considered to be one of the most high profile UFC events of the year. On Friday, the New York State Athletic Commission declared that UFC champion Max Holloway, who was slated to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC lightweight belt in the headline match, has been medically disqualified from participating.
“With much regret, and after careful review, a joint decision was made between the state athletic commission and the UFC,” Kim Sumbler, NYSAC executive director said at Friday’s official weigh-ins before Saturday’s card at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, per the Washington Post. “We’ve deemed Mr. Holloway medically unfit to attend the scales [to weigh in]. No further comments at this time. We apologize.”
Holloway’s disqualification throws the event, which had already lost 3 fight from its card due to the McGregor fracas, into doubt as UFC officials scramble to find a suitable last-minute replacement for Holloway.
