LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Simon Renshaw, the veteran talent manager who guided the career of the Dixie Chicks for more than two decades, announced that he’s planning to retire.
According to Variety, Renshaw said that after 43 years in the music business, its time to relax and enjoy the retired life.
“Moving to Mexico and exploring all those places I’ve always wanted to. No interest in dying at my desk. Recommending that everyone else should do the same,” Renshaw told the publication.
Renshaw launched his company Strategic Artist Management in 2005 after a 4-year stint with The Firm and represents Clay Aiken, the Dixie Chicks, and Jessie Malakouti among others.
Renshaw first signed the Dixie Chicks in 1995 and helped the group to become one of the hottest country bands of their era, selling tens of millions of albums and scooping up armloads of Grammys along the way.
In 2003, Renshaw was presented with the ACLU’s Bill of Rights after the band became country music pariahs when they told an Audience in London in 2003 that they were “ashamed that the president of the United States of America is from Texas.” Renshaw later testified in front of a congressional committee, revealing that his office had received death threats, and suggesting that the group had been targeted by an orchestrated campaign by conservative activist groups.
According to Variety, the Dixie Chicks are currently in talks with new prospective managers, including Scooter Braun.
