CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) The city of Chicago is increasing security this summer along its lakefront Millennium Park, home to several concerts and events.

City officials say starting May 19 there will be a security perimeter and bag check at the park’s Pritzker Pavilion, and the city will prohibit alcohol at seven of the amphitheater’s biggest events, including the Chicago House Music Festival, “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me,” Chicago Blues Festival, Chicago Mariachi Festival and Chicago Jazz Festival. Outside alcohol will be allowed at other events.

Firearms, knives and other weapons will be prohibited.

Officials at the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications say the changes are because of terror attacks in major cities and entertainment events worldwide.

The park hosts 80 free summer cultural programs annually.

“We want everyone who comes to Millennium Park … to have a great experience,” said Mark Kelly, commissioner for the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events in a press release, according to the Chicago Tribune. “DCASE will be working to implement the new security plan and alcohol policy with the visitor experience in mind.”
