MELBOURNE, Victoria (CelebrityAccess) — Intense heat at Ed Sheeran’s packed concert at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne on March 10 left fans steaming about venue policies and high-priced water.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, numerous concert-goers fainted due to heat exhaustion in the 95-degree heat inside of Etihad Stadium stadium at the record-capacity show, with Ambulance Victoria confirming that multiple patients were treated for dehydration at the event.
Fans took to social media to complain about the conditions inside of the stadium, recounting their experiences with the intense heat and $5 bottled water.
“Was a nightmare, it was insanely hot with the stadium at full capacity and no air flow or air conditioning. People were fainting only 30 miss (sic) into the first supporting act,” one attendee said in a post on the venue’s Facebook page.
“I was there Friday on level three and Saturday on the floor. It was like a sweat box. No circulation and five dollars for a water is bloody ridiculous,” another fan, Ann Wiseman, told the SMH.
A spokesman for the venue responded to the outrage, telling the SMH: “Patrons’ health and safety is always our number one priority and we are continually monitoring the situation,” she said. “The temperatures inside the stadium were not at a level that put Ed’s fans at risk.
“Free water stations were available throughout the venue for fans to continually hydrate … and they were encouraged to do so. On the stadium floor there was free water being handed out throughout the night to fans.”
The rep for the stadium also addressed the roof not being open, telling the SMH that it was left closed “at the request of the touring management.”
