A Facebook posting reveals that Christian rock band Third Day is disbanding after a 12-date May tour being produced by Awakening Events, and sponsored by Food for the Hungry.
The tour starts May 31st in Seattle and will ends June 27th at Red Rocks Amphitheater near Morrison, Colorado. Worship leader Matt Maher will be a special guest on the tour, and other guests will be featured in individual markets.
Posted on Third Day’s website is the fans message: “These last twenty-five years of THIRD DAY have been an amazing ride that we never in our wildest dreams thought we would experience. We know this is a season that is coming to a close, and we wanted to give our fans one more chance to see us perform live. The live show has been the core fan experience, and this tour will give us an opportunity to go out and say thank you to the fans who have always been so supportive of our music. Thank you for the memories and we’ll see you out there. – THIRD DAY.”
The band has sold over 7 million albums in the United States and had 28 #1 radio hits. Their fans are known as “Gomers” after a song on their second album “Contagious” about the TV character Gomer Pyle. The band was inducted in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame on September 19, 2009
“We’ve been talking about it for a while now,” lead vocalist Mac Powell told Billboard. “I’ve had things I’ve wanted to do and Mark is really enjoying writing and David is loving photography now. So our .season was coming to a close. It’s bittersweet. I’m sad that it’s coming to a close, but I’m excited about starting the next season of my life. It’s great that we get a chance to close the chapter in our own timing and in our own way. Nobody is mad at each other,” he says. “We’re still friends and still buds. We’re riding off into the sunset in a good way.”
The final tour will also feature guitarist Mark Lee sharing new music, and stories from his acclaimed 2017 autobiography, “Hurt Road,” which released last year.
After the tour it has been revealed that Powell will continue making music with his band Mac Powell and the Family Reunion, touring solo as well as doing shows with Craig Morgan.
