DETROIT (CelebrityAccess) R. Kelly is expected to headline an arena show in Detroit tomorrow night, but not without some protests.
Kelly is set to for a “collision course” with protesters before he takes the stage at the city’s new Little Caesars Arena because of the recent surge of of the #MeToo movement, according to the city’s MetroTimes. Kelly, who was recently evicted from his two rental homes in Georgia because of $30,000 in past-due payments, is not normally the target of protests despite accusations of sexual assault, child pornography and even kidnapping, but times have changed.
“We’re funding [R. Kelly’s] behavior when we buy his concert ticket,” Kamilah Johnson, co-organizer of the the protest, told the paper. “We’re ultimately saying ‘it’s OK to support a person who has had inappropriate sexual activities with under age girls.’”
Johnson is the executive director of the Detgroit-based Sexual Assault Services for Holistic Healing and Awareness Center, and she asked attendees to “rip up their tickets.”
Kelly has had unwanted attention for many years, having been accused of marrying Detroit-based Aaliyah when she was 15 years old, then for an alleged videotape of him and a female in a scatological situation and, finally, for forming a “cult,” per the definition of longtime Chicago journalist Jim DeRogatis.
