ABU DHABI, UAE (CelebrityAccess) — International engineer firm ISG announced that they have completed the refurbishment of the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi, in time for the FIFA Club World Cup in December.
The 43,000-capacity stadium is located in the heart of Abu Dhabi and considered an iconic part of the city’s skyline.
Completed in 1979, the stadium is the largest sports facility in the UAE and one of the oldest in the region. It is named after the Emirate’s ruling family and operated on their behalf by the Abu Dhabi Entertainment Company.
Upgrades at the stadium included extensive renovation of the VIP lounge area, staff administration offices, leasable Grade A offices and public washrooms, and corridor flooring in the upper concourse and ground floors. As well, new firefighting and life-safety systems were installed at the venue, as well as upgrades to the existing mechanical and electrical systems, and replacement of four electrical substations.
The stadium remained fully operational throughout the refurbishment, hosting several sports events.
