BERLIN (CelebrityAccess) Johann Johannsson, 48, award winning composer and producer, was found dead in his Berlin apartment Feb. 9, according to his manager. No more details were available at press time.
“Today, I lost my friend who was one of the most talented musicians and intelligent people I knew,” manager Tim Husom said in a statement. Police are currently investigating, according to Redbird Music.
Johannsson won a Golden Globe for his core for “The Theory of Everything,” the 2014 film based on the life of Stephen Hawking. The score also received Grammy and Oscar nominations. He also received an Oscar nomination for scoring “Sicario,” and he received Golden Globe, BAFTA and Grammy nominations for “Arrival.” Last year he worked on “Mother,” starring Jennifer Lawrence. He
Johannsson’s music was considered “haunting and ominous,” according to CNN, and once told The Guardian that sometimes his job was to know when to not contribute sounds to a film.
“In ‘Arrival,’ the use of space and silence is extremely important. When music is needed, it’s really there and it serves a purpose,” he said.
Johannsson, born in Iceland, began his career as a rock guitarist, playing in a bnad of teenagers.
“I started my first band when I was 16 or 17, and it was a band which was very much based around distorted fuzz guitar,” he said in an interview with Red Bull Music Academy. “It was very minimalistic, very textual.”
