BATON ROUGE, LA (CelebrityAccess) — Fresh from a stint in prison, Baton Rouge-based rapper Kevin Gates has announced his first post-release tour dates.
According to a post on his Instagram, Gates is set to perform at the Common Ground festival in Lansing, Michigan on July 8th and is also slated to perform at the JMBLYA music festivals in Dallas on May 4th, Austin on May 5th, and Houston on May 6th.
Gates, who began his career in 2005 as a recording artist on the Dead Game Records label, released numerous mixtapes, three of which broke into the Billboard 200. His debut album “Islah” peaked at #1 on the Billboard Rap chart and #2 on the Billboard 200.
Gate’s career was interrupted after he was convicted of battery after kicking a female fan while he was performing on stage at an event in Lakeland, Florida and was sentenced to 180 days in jail. That was followed by a 30-month stint at am East Moline, IL correctional facility in connection with gun charges stemming from 2013. He was released on parole on January 10, 2018.
