LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) Hip-hop and R&B may have dominated the Grammy Awards nominations but when the Recording Academy’s big event arrives Jan. 28, it should have plenty of musical diversity showcased.
That includes U2, which will take time off from its busy schedule to, presumably, perform music from its latest album, which arrived after the Grammy’s cut-off date. The same goes for Sam Smith, who is also performing.
Kendrick Lamar, up for seven Grammys including Album of the Year, is expected to open the show.
So are Brothers Osborne, Maren Morris and Eric Church, who all performed at the Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas in October and are doing a tribute in honor of the victims of the tragedy that occurred there during the last evening of the three-day event.
Lady Gaga and Pink are also lined up for performances, as is a collaboration by Elton John and Miley Cyrus. Two other collaborations are on the schedule: Louis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, and Bruno Mars and Cardi B. The first is a no brainer: together the two created the megahit “Despacito,” which currently has more than 4.7 billion views on YouTube alone. Mars’ and Cardi B’s have a remix of “Finesse,” a Mars song that is nominated for a producer’s award.
Rounding everything out (so far) is a performance by Alessia Cara, Khalid and Logic; a performance by Little Big Town; a Broadway tribute by Patti LuPone and Ben Platt; and SZA.
Also, Kesha is on the books. Kesha is up for two Grammys. The song “Praying” is up for Best Pop Solo Performance, and the album Rainbow is nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.
