SANTA MONICA, CALIF. (CelebrityAccess) Neil Diamond is expected to be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy this summer, although the announcement of the date and location is forthcoming.
The award is a Special Merits Award celebrating perfomrers that have made outstanding contributions of artistic significance to the field of recording. That would certainly go for Diamond with more than 130 million albums sold, 38 Top 40 singles and 16 Top 10 albums, with 40 Gold albums, 21 Platinum albums and 11 Multi-Platinum albums.
Diamond is also a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has a Golden Globe Award, 13 Grammy nominations, an ASCAP Film and Television award and was 2009’s Musicares Person of the Year, among his many accolades. Besides, who else can get an entire Grammy Awards show audience to do a singalong to “Sweet Caroline”?
