MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (CelebrityAccess) — Australian pop queen P!nk has been tapped by the NFL to perform the national anthem ahead of Super Bowl LII on Feb. 4 in Minneapolis.
The announcement was made by Dan Hanzus of NFL.com, who spilled the beans on Monday morning on the network’s Good Morning Football program.
While it’s not the coveted halftime slot, which is being covered this year by Justin Timberlake, artists performing the national anthem have sometimes segued into halftime performances, such as Lady Gaga, who performed the anthem for Super Bowl 50 in 2016, and then served as the halftime entertainment for last year’s Super Bowl 51.
“Gaga’s well-received performance at Super Bowl 50 helped open the doors for her halftime gig the following year, so perhaps we should start looking at these assignments as something of an audition in front of 111 million people,” Hanzus wrote. “That doesn’t sound stressful at all.”
P!nk is also set to hit the road for her Beautiful Trauma World Tour, which kicks off on March 1st in Phoenix, AZ and wraps on Sept. 8th in Auckland, NZ.
As well, she took to social media over the weekend to hint to some ‘secret stuff’ planned for later this year.
I’m really looking forward to 2018. I’m really excited about the Grammy’s. Tour. Some other stuff that’s a secret still and I can’t wait til it’s not a secret. I’m also excited for trump to lose his twitter password and also I’m excited that I have dope hair. 💩🤘🏽🤡
