CHELSEA, ENGLAND (CelebrityAccess). Tony Calder, 74, former U.K. Promoter and record company owner, died at hospital in Chelsea, England, after a battle with pneumonia Jan. 2.

Calder was hired by Brian Epstien, manager of The Beatles, to promote the band in the 1960s. Soon he formed Image, a PR firm, alongside Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldhham, which managed the Stones and promoted the Beach Boys, according to the Guardian.

Calder and Oldham formed independent label Immediate Records in 1965, recording acts like Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, and The Small Faces. He worked in the 1960s as a record producer, signing Bay City Rollers and Black Sabbath, according to the paper. He began managing Eddy Grant in 1968 and, in 2007, was working with Grant as his business manager.

He and Oldham co-authored a book about Abba.
