ENGLAND (CelebrityAccess) Those of the English type can no longer refer to Ringo Starr and Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb without calling them Sir.
Starr and Gibb were part of a about a thousand English natives who will be knighted in the annual New Year Honours. Also included are ex-deputy PM Nick Clegg, novelist Michael Morpurgo, author Jilly Cooper,, TV chef Rick Stein and ballerina/“Strictly Come Dancing” judge Darcey Bussell. The titles, of course, will be either Sir or Dame.
There are 1,123 people on the main honours list issued by the Cabinet Office, according to the BBC, with 70 percent recognized for work in their communities.
Sir Barry Gibb said he was humbled “and very proud” of the knighthood for services to music and charity. Starr said the knighthood was “long overdue,” adding, “It’s great! It’s an honour and a pleasure to be considered and acknowledged for my music and my charity work, both of which I love. Peace and love.”
Notables include cricketer Heather Knight, who was “blown away” by her Order of the British Empire. Nearly 10 percent of the list were for people in the health sector.
