In honor of Boston natives’ Mighty Mighty Bosstones’ eminent shows at the city’s House of Blues, plus because of their recent philanthropy and probably just because of their boss-i-tude, the mayor of the city proclaimed Dec. 28 “The Mighty Migyty Bosstones Day” throughout Beantown.
Bandleader Dickey Barrett and his heavy-hitting ska band are expected to play its annual Hometown Throwdown, a tradition they began in 1994, at the House of Blues Dec. 28-30. Barrett, who calls Los Angeles home, made it clear in a recent interview with the Boston Globe that the East Coast city will always be his hometown.
“We’re always ready,” Barrett said. “It’s in our blood. It’s the air we breathe. We’re Bosstones, we know we’re the best at all times, and that’s the way we show up.”
The band, with its 30-plus-year career and nine albums, will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of its double-platinum-selling album Let’s Face It as well as the 20th anniversary of the Hometown Throwdown (the math includes a five-year hiatus for the band).
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are also being recognized for being one of the first contributors to The Shout Syndicate Fund, which provides grants for nonprofits that provide after school arts programs to teens.
Mayor Marty Walsh is expected to make the actual presentation at the band’s Friday night show.
