LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Disney’s latest movie in the Star Wars Franchise “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” enjoyed a warm reception in theaters over the weekend after it debuted to an astonishing $450.0M across 55 territories, according to estimates compiled by comScore.

Domestically, the “The Last Jedi” was the second highest debut for a film in box office history, notching up an impressive $220.0M, with the film coming in just behind its predecessor “The Force Awakens” which debuted to a $248 million North American opening in 2015.

The opening of the latest Star Wars blockbuster comes against the backdrop of Disney’s $52.4bn bid to buy 21st Century Fox, which if the sale had already completed, would have seen Disney controlling 90% of the total domestic box office revenue over the weekend.

Fox’s animated “Ferdinand” took the #2 spot in domestic box office over the weekend, adding $13.3M from North American movie-goers.

Internationally, Feng Xiaogang’s China-based drama ‘Youth’ had a strong showing, reporting an estimated 44.3m over the weekend in just 5 territories.
